Our Story

We use local flavors and ingredients as well as smoke from our own trees to create a delicious experience that is truly Vermont!

How It Started

Dino Bones BBQ is thrilled to share something unique with our neighbors and vacation-goers.

It began with the purchase of a small charcoal smoker to cook the meat from a pig our family had purchased.

We used it for a few months, quickly realizing how much we love cooking barbecue. The flavor of the wood and tenderness of the meat drew us into researching a larger and better smoker—one that used wood exclusively to cook.

As we perfected our craft, word got out to friends and neighbors and they started asking us to smoke meats for them. Since so many were asking for smoked meats and offering to pay us, we decided to turn our passion into a business.

The name Dino Bones is based off of the nickname for beef short ribs: “Dinosaur Ribs”.

Sustainably Sourced

People have cooked using a wood fire for thousands of years, and this method truly makes for the best barbeque.

In order to pass along good flavor, much care goes into selecting our wood. We only use sustainably sourced, local hardwoods that are carefully chosen to ensure the best flavor.

Most of our wood comes from our family’s land. To compliment the flavors that Vermonters enjoy and are familiar with, we primarily use maple, apple, and cherry.

Meet Hannah, Owner

Food to me isn't just a necessary part of life, it's also a destination.

My parents instilled in me a love for different cultures and foods. There are so many different techniques, colors, spices, and flavors in the world—a seemingly endless variety. Food says a lot about the culture and the place you’re in. The ingredients grown in that region make each dish unique from another part of the world. The dishes may be similar, but depending on the ingredients, it can completely change the flavor.

I always found that so fascinating and it makes me feel like I can connect to people from around the world, even if I have never been there before. Making sure my food always has a lot of flavor and good spice is important to me.

Cooking food for others brings joy to my life, so hearing people enjoy what I make is very rewarding. Thus, I have always had the desire to open a restaurant. Learning from my husband’s experience with barbecue, I was able to start Dino Bones BBQ. Now, I use local flavors and ingredients as well as smoke from our own trees to create a delicious experience that is truly Vermont.
